Staying Focused

As assignments begin to pile up with the time of the term, it is common to struggle with sustaining our focus and attention. There is so much to do, and so little time to do it, so it is important to focus your attention on the right things. Although assessment tasks won’t go away like magic, there are methods you could use to ensure you can stay laser-focused on obliterating your to-do list. These are some top tips you could use and the steps you could take to get closer to completing your academic missions!

1. Take Short Breaks

You could take short breaks to make sure your study sessions are divided into manageable chunks. The Pomodoro Technique has been proven to increase motivation and alleviate feelings of stress and frustration when there is an overflow of to-be-completed tasks. It involves using a timer to break work into 25-minute intervals that are separated by short breaks. This way, your attention will be honed, and the work won’t seem as intimidating as your brain knows it won’t be stuck with the boringness for too long.

2. Put Away Your Distractions

All sorts of things can distract us when we don’t want to do something. Assessments aren’t fun, but we cannot escape them. The quicker we finish what we need to do, the better. So you might want to hide what could distract you (i.e. locking away your phone before you dive into your assignment) or create a designated study space where there is nothing that could take you away from your potential HDs!

Applications and extensions are also available on search engines that could temporarily blacklist websites such as YouTube, games, and other alluring pages you won’t use while you’re studying. This way, you will be protected even if you feel the temptation to procrastinate.
